No one could ever say a bad word about the way Benny Goodman played this. The classical world laughed, spit, criticized and disrespected him. And one day he played Mozart K622 at Carnegie Hall and that world took a deep breath and paused for those moments. To tell the King of Swing he couldn’t play classical music… and this concerto written with both swing and classical in it… it was a reminder to the world of his virtuoso. May you always inspire the world, Mr. Goodman. ❤

Wow, amazingly performed!!!! Beautiful beautiful. I loved those extra seconds in silence at the very end. I always feel that this pieces need to be acompanied by images, images of paintings depicting each of the moments.

Movement number 10: Quando corpus moreitur Fac ut animae, donetur Paradisi gloria. Amen. Singing this last movement makes singing the preceding movements worth all of the effort. It is absolutely triumphant.

warum singen heute immer hohe Mezzos, die die Stimme abdunkeln die Altpartien? Man scheint keine Ahnung mehr zu haben, was eine richtige Altistin ist. lächerlich dieses japanische Singvögelchen heir. Bestimmt verheiratet mit irgendeinem wichtigen Mann im Business. Hat nicht mehr Tiefe als jeder rechte Sopran haben muss. und die Sopranistin? singen kann sie nur beschränkt aber leidende Gesichter ziehen, die mach ich auch, wenn sie singt. Elsner ein typisch deutscher Tenor, der eine nette stimme hat, aber nie gelernt hat wie man höhe Töne singt. Es ist einfach eine Schande, dass solche Leute mit solchen Orchestern und Dirigenten musizieren.

It's easy to say that this is a bad performance, we can hear wrong notes and bad intonation, but I think this is anyway the correct version of this concerto: no random glissatos or swing rhythms with the only purpose to make it more jazzy. This is a classic concerto, it's not Artie Shaw. Probably a lot of musicians should listen to this recording before study it.

If I had not been told that this was Dvorak, I would never have guessed, having listened to many of his other works over 50+ years. Thank you for opening my ears to another aspect of Dvorak's genius.
